Refrigerant Leaks Found and Fixed, Not Topped Off

If your AC needs a recharge every season, it has a leak. We find it, show it to you, and fix the cause instead of renting you refrigerant.

Protect your comfort

What this work looks like done right

Refrigerant does not get used up. A system that needs a top-off every spring is a system with a leak, and the annual recharge routine is the most expensive way to own an air conditioner: you pay for the refrigerant, the visits, the lost efficiency in between, and eventually the compressor that dies from running low.

Leak repair starts with actually finding it: electronic detection, dye where appropriate, nitrogen pressure testing, and a methodical check of the usual suspects, from coil rub-outs and factory braze joints to the flare fittings and valve cores. Florida’s heat and coastal air are hard on coils, and the leak points follow patterns experience recognizes.

Then you get the honest fork: a repairable leak gets brazed or re-fitted and the system recharged to factory spec by weight. A leaking evaporator or condenser coil on an aging system gets the real conversation, coil replacement versus system replacement, with numbers for both and no push.

How it goes

Three steps, no surprises

  1. Confirm the leak

Pressures and history first. A one-time low charge and a chronic leak are different problems.

  2. Find it, show it

Detection narrows it to the joint, coil or fitting. You see the evidence before approving.

  3. Fix and recharge

Repair made, system evacuated and weighed back to spec, performance verified.

The climate factor

Why this work is different in Florida

Heat is the obvious opponent here, but humidity is the sneakier one. It swells door seals, feeds biological growth on evaporator coils, corrodes electrical contacts and keeps drain lines permanently busy. A system can lose a fifth of its capacity to a dirty coil without a single dramatic symptom beyond a power bill that keeps creeping and a house that never feels quite crisp. That slow rot is why the tune-up exists, and why we measure temperatures and pressures instead of just rinsing the condenser and calling it a day. The goal is a system that pulls its rated capacity in August, not just one that turns on.

How pricing works

Pricing here works one way: you hear the number before the work happens. Service calls get quoted when you book. Repairs get diagnosed, then priced, then approved by you before a wrench turns. Replacements come as two or three clear options with honest operating cost differences, not a single take-it-or-leave-it figure engineered around a commission. The word customers keep using in reviews is honest, and that is the entire strategy: an owner-run company in a small market lives or dies on whether the last customer would call again, so every price has to survive being repeated to your neighbor.

The owner-run difference

Call at two in the morning and you reach the owner of the company, with no answering service or script in between. He can ask the right questions, talk you through a safe check and tell you plainly whether it can wait until daylight. That is the difference you notice first. The deeper one is that the same person sets the price and backs the 100% satisfaction guarantee, with twenty years of hands-on work behind both and four years of referrals proving the approach.

Equipment

Brands, parts and honest recommendations

Some contractors are really distribution outlets with trucks, and the unit they recommend is the one paying the best spiff this month. Here, Rheem and Trane are the factory partners because the equipment and the support behind it hold up, and that is where the loyalty stops. Repairs cover every major brand Florida homes run, including Carrier, Goodman, Lennox, Daikin, York, Ruud and Amana, with regional parts keeping turnarounds short. What gets recommended is what fits your square footage, your ductwork and what you want to spend.

Before the truck arrives

The easiest visits are the ones where the technician can get straight to work. Put pets in another room, open the gate to the side yard, and move whatever is stacked in front of the air handler closet or the attic hatch. If someone else will be home, tell them what you noticed so they can pass it along. And if the system is still running, leave it on unless you hear grinding or smell burning; seeing the problem live is faster than guessing at it later.

Questions we hear about this

Straight answers about refrigerant leak repair from the crew that does it every week. If your question is not here, call 561-339-5729 for a direct answer, day or night.

Why does my AC need refrigerant every year?

Because it is leaking, full stop. Topping off treats the symptom and rents you comfort by the season. Finding and fixing the leak costs more once and less forever, and you get the honest math on your specific system.

Is a recharge without a leak search ever okay?

As a diagnostic step or a bridge, occasionally, with eyes open. As an annual ritual, no. Running chronically low also cooks compressors, which turns a small problem into the big one.

Where do systems usually leak?

Evaporator coils, rubbed line sets, flare fittings on mini-splits, valve cores and factory braze joints. Coastal corrosion adds its own entries. The detection process checks them in order of likelihood.

My system uses old refrigerant. Does that change things?

It changes the math. Refrigerants for older systems are expensive and getting scarcer, which shortens the distance between repair and replace. You will see both numbers before deciding anything.

Is refrigerant dangerous to my family?

In normal leak quantities it is not a household hazard, but it is an environmental one, and venting it is illegal. Recovery and handling here follow the rules, every time.
